• The first-of-its-kind Proof-of-Concept (PoC) collaboration in Malaysia successfully integrates U Mobile’s private 5G network and Enfrasys Solutions’ artificial intelligence (AI) application Container Vision through multi-access-edge computing (MEC).
• This PoC enabled Transocean Logistics to become the first container depot in the country to automate its container inspection process using 5G’s low latency and high bandwidth capabilities to capture and log defects in real-time.
• The PoC results show improved response time in detection of defects using AI when the application is operated via a private 5G network and MEC, while also delivering improved turnaround times for defect filing and reporting.

Kuala Lumpur, 16 May 2024 - U Mobile in collaboration with Enfrasys Solutions have successfully concluded a private 5G network proof-of-concept (PoC). The focus of this PoC was to assess the feasibility of automating Transocean Logistics’ container inspection process using U Mobile’s 5G private network capabilities as well as Enfrasys Solutions’ industrial application called Container Vision which leverages multi-access-edge computing (MEC). The PoC was made possible by ZTE Corporation’s support for the provision of 5G RAN and 5G Core infrastructure for the private network. 

This first-of-its-kind collaboration in Malaysia makes Transocean Logistics the first container depot in Malaysia to have adopted such technology to automate its container inspection process, a critical aspect of logistics operations. The PoC showcased the benefits of using 5G and MEC which was facilitated by Container Vision’s artificial intelligence (AI) features. The solution enabled Transocean Logistics’ inspectors to scan and detect defects in real-time using AI on containers arriving at Transocean Logistics’ depot site located in Butterworth, Penang. 

During the PoC, Transocean Logistics witnessed up to 70% improvement in time required to complete the detection process, in comparison to existing practices. This PoC successfully showcased that 5G technology is able to advance the logistics industry by delivering enhanced digital solutions, enabled by improved connectivity, service reliability and performance of the 5G Private Network.

The PoC was able to demonstrate various other operational efficiencies, such as:

• U Mobile’s low latency and high bandwidth private 5G network supporting Enfrasys Solutions’ Container Vision application, enabling seamless digitalisation for Transocean Logistics’ container inspection process.
• The end-to-end digitalisation of Transocean Logistics’ container inspection process, where workers are now able to perform ISO standard inspections by capturing container information and defect images using the Container Vision app. This modernisation delivered improvement in inspection accuracy and governance, with all data stored securely within the private network. 
• Improvement in data processing and response time facilitated by MEC, in which computation of heavy AI processes was moved closer to the application usage source, enabling inspectors to detect and log defects instantaneously.
• Streamlining of supply chain business operations with the ability to integrate various upstream business applications, promoting transparency amongst depot operators and container owners.
