Putrajaya, 4 December 2024 – In light of the heavy flooding that has severely impacted over 150,000 Malaysians in the East Coast, U Mobile is joining in the efforts to support the nation in this time of need. In the telco’s latest flood relief initiative, U Mobile has pledged a RM3 million donation to Dana Ihsan MADANI.
On top of financial assistance, U Mobile is making every effort to ensure those impacted can continue to stay connected by providing free internet at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in the affected areas. This free service will also benefit aid workers in the vicinity, enabling them to coordinate relief and rescue efforts more efficiently.
“U Mobile is committed to supporting Malaysians during this challenging time and is honoured to be able to contribute RM3 million to Dana Ihsan MADANI for flood relief efforts. As part of the relief effort, U Mobile is also collaborating closely with MCMC to provide free connectivity at temporary evacuation centres (PPS), ensuring that those affected can stay connected with their loved ones, while also enhancing the efficiency of relief and rescue operations,” said Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile.
This contribution to Dana Ihsan MADANI marks the latest flood relief initiative from U Mobile. In November, U Mobile partnered with NADMA on the agency’s early flood warning SMS system. In July, U Mobile collaborated with MERCY Malaysia to provide aid to communities affected by floods in Penampang, Sabah. In earlier years, U Mobile has also worked with various NGOs and also the Communications Ministry on flood relief, via donations in cash, in kind as well as through volunteerism efforts by U Mobile employees to help those displaced by floods.
