  • U Mobile seeks to leverage Huawei Malaysia’s technical expertise and knowledge to strengthen its 5G-A and AI talent capabilities in latest MoU
  • The collaboration includes a management knowledge exchange programme, a localised 5G-A and AI industrial talent training module, and a co-creation model that focuses on the development of innovative, future‑oriented training approaches aligned with emerging 5G‑A and AI advancements
  • With this latest partnership, U Mobile aims to build a robust and future‑ready internal talent pipeline, strengthening the company’s readiness to meet evolving digital industry demands

Barcelona, Spain, 5 March 2026 – U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on enhancing U Mobile’s workforce capabilities in the evolving field of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This partnership is in line with U Mobile’s goal of building stronger leadership readiness, elevating technical competencies and preparing U Mobile’s workforce to support the company’s growth in an increasingly 5G-A and AI integrated environment. The move also supports the company’s commitment to realise Malaysia’s digital ambitions.

Under the MoU, the parties will collaborate on three initiatives:

  • Management Empowerment Programme
U Mobile and Huawei Malaysia will jointly develop a Management Empowerment Programme designed for U Mobile’s senior leadership. Huawei Malaysia will provide global resources and access to its top technical experts and lecturers to help establish the platform aimed at enhancing strategic decision-making by focusing on how AI may be adopted internally and externally to shape the business.

  • Localised 5G-A and AI Industrial Training Module
This initiative will focus on empowering U Mobile’s internal teams through locally relevant training supported by Huawei Malaysia’s high quality course materials and on-site technical assistance. The goal is to optimise U Mobile’s internal talent training system and foster a professional 5G-A and AI talent pool that is aligned with the needs of the digital industry.

  • Joint Innovation Module for Talent Training
Both organisations will co-create new training approaches, develop future-oriented courses and build distinctive projects tailored to emerging 5G-A and AI advancements. This component of the partnership aims to establish a practical and innovative talent development benchmark that ensures U Mobile remains ready to meet evolving industry demands.

Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile shared that in a rapidly evolving digital economy, the right talent pipeline is key to the success of a company. “As Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, U Mobile must be at the forefront of technology to ensure that our customers have the best ULTRA5G experience possible. Apart from a next gen 5G network that we have invested in and that we are continually upgrading, we also believe talent to be key to our success, and we are delighted to be able to tap into Huawei’s Malaysia’s technical and knowledge base to further enhance our team’s 5G-A and AI capabilities. This partnership gives us the opportunity to co-develop relevant training modules. This effort will also further strengthen U Mobile’s position in realising Malaysia’s digital ambitions.”

Zac Chow, Deputy CEO of Huawei Malaysia said, “In the era of intelligence, digital intelligence transformation can be accelerated only by combining 5G-A and AI technology with industry cognition and talent. Huawei will leverage our global expertise in these domains to develop localised systems, high-quality courses and on-site technical support to help U Mobile optimise its talent initiatives. Technology makes things work and people make technology work. We aim to assist in both these areas.”

The MoU was formalised at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2026 by U Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer, Woon Ooi Yuen and Zac Chow, Deputy CEO of Huawei Malaysia, witnessed by senior representatives from both organisations. This is one of four MoUs that U Mobile has signed at MWC this year.
