A Leap Forward for Efficiency and Accountability in Logistics

Every transfer point in an air cargo journey creates the potential for uncertainty. This is eespecially true for high-value air cargo shipments to East Malaysia, where cargo passes through multiple handling points and visibility can be lost along the way.

U Business has partnered with Qualcomm to develop a data-driven shipment tracking solution, piloted with City-Link Express to enhance end-to-end visibility, strengthen shipment assurance and improve operational efficiency.

Overcoming a Long-standing Logistics Hurdle

Conventional shipment tracking relies on barcode scans at key checkpoints, providing only periodic updates while leaving critical visibility gaps between handling points. As a result, delays or damage that can be difficult to trace potentially leading to lengthy investigations and operational inefficiencies.

U Business and Qualcomm deployed smart trackers on selected high-value shipments during a two-month trial with City-Link Express, covering routes to cargo terminals in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. The smart tracker provided continuous, real-time visibility into each shipment's location and handling conditions including shock, tilt, temperature and light exposure throughout the journey.

End-to-end Visibility in Real-time

Powered by ULTRA IoT connectivity, shipment data was visualised through Qualcomm's tracking platform in real-time, providing greater visibility throughout the shipment journey even in environments with limited GPS coverage.

Digital sensor data improved dispute readiness by up to 50%, replacing subjective handler reports with objective, time-stamped records of shipment conditions for stronger evidence and greater transparency.

Shipment location verification improved by up to 90%, reducing issue resolution times from days to hours. Real-time alerts highlighted potential handling issues, allowing operations teams to quickly identify affected checkpoints and take corrective action.

Digitising Logistics Operations

The PoC demonstrated enhanced operational efficiency and productivity, with review time reduced by up to 70%. The reusable tracker design also lowered per-shipment costs compared with traditional single-use tracking solutions.

With up to 30% improvement in data accuracy, logistics teams gained deeper insights into actual shipment performance. This enabled more effective route optimisation, proactive capacity planning and better-informed operational decisions.

A New Standard of Moving High-Value Cargo

By combining ULTRA IoT connectivity with Qualcomm’s tracking technology via City-Link Express, U Business and its partners are transforming cargo visibility from a reactive process into a proactive, data-driven operation.

The solution is a proof that the future of high-value air cargo comes with greater shipment assurance, faster issue resolution and smarter decision-making.

“This collaboration with U Business and Qualcomm has been a game-changer for our high-value air cargo operations, with unprecedented real-time visibility and objective data that we simply didn't have with conventional scanning.”
