U Mobile and ZTE Signs MoU To Strengthen Collaboration in 5G Advanced Technology, Autonomous Network & 5G Adoption For Businesses

  • The collaboration will see U Mobile and ZTE tap into each other’s expertise and share knowledge on 5G and 5G Advanced technology via various use cases
  • To enhance U Mobile’s network operations, ZTE will also be implementing Containerisation and Autonomous Network initiatives
  • Both companies will also be exploring 5G capabilities for enterprises to spur adoption

Barcelona, 26 February 2024 – U Mobile, the award-winning mobile and digital services provider, and ZTE Corporation, a global leading provider of information and communication technology solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance collaboration in 5G and 5G Advanced technology, Containerisation and Autonomous Network initiatives, as well as 5G Adoption for businesses.

U Mobile will leverage upon ZTE’s technologies and expertise on several key focus areas:

  • Demonstrations and use cases that feature 5G and 5G Advanced technology and capabilities, such as enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) and Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communications (URLLC) which promises an even faster experience to accommodate scenarios like high-definition video streaming on-the-go and remote surgery, respectively.
  • Evolution of U Mobile’s 5G Virtualised Core Network to Containerisation, an approach that involves compartmentalising network functions into multiple isolated ‘containers’ instead of running them on a full-fledged operating system, leading to greater efficiency, speed and agility for both consumer (ToC) and business (ToB) applications.
  • Improving the intelligence of U Mobile’s network through the development and deployment of an autonomous network study, using ZTE’s leading technologies as well as adoption of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML). Autonomous networks run with more flexibility and concise network architecture, and is able to configure, monitor, and maintain itself, making network operations more efficient, reliable and generally, perform better.
  • 5G Enterprise Solutions and use cases that focuses on the business (ToB) sector where both parties will identify and implement innovative solutions that leverage 5G for various enterprise applications.

"U Mobile is delighted to strengthen our collaboration with our long-term partner, ZTE. We aim to tap into ZTE’s technology expertise to explore capabilities of 5G Advanced and applications that will benefit both consumers and enterprises. This MOU aligns with our drive to continuously elevate our customers’ network experience and it also brings us closer to our vision to be Malaysia’s favourite mobile and digital services provider,” said Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile.

"Through the long-standing partnership between ZTE and UMobile, we believe that this collaboration will unlock numerous business opportunities and facilitate U Mobile's expansion in the future market. By utilizing ZTE's advanced technology, we are prepared to explore new business opportunities, enhance customer experiences, and optimise network operations for greater efficiency and reliability," remarked Steven Ge, Managing Director of ZTE Malaysia.
