Kuala Lumpur, 9 August 2024 – U Mobile, the award-winning mobile and digital services provider, and ZTE Corporation, a global leading provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the deployment of a second 5G network, and also to explore the evolution towards future RAN technology including 5G-Advanced (5G-A). This strategic MoU will further strengthen U Mobile’s position to deliver high quality 5G and 5G-A experiences, benefitting all markets but especially enterprises who require ultra- fast speeds and high reliability.
With ZTE’s technology and expertise, U Mobile will deploy state-of-the-art hardware and software for a high performance and efficient second 5G network. U Mobile will also continue to work with ZTE on various research & development (R&D) initiatives beyond 5G, looking at the evolution towards 5G-A, 6G and future technologies to support consumer and various enterprise demands.
In terms of end-to-end support, both parties will continue to collaborate on network design, planning, rollout, operations and optimising second 5G network deployment. Recognising the investment required for 5G deployment, the strategic partners will jointly evaluate and seek innovative financing solutions to ensure a model that facilities rapid technology rollout and cost efficiency.

This partnership builds upon U Mobile's previous collaborations with ZTE, which included joint efforts in enhancing 5G and 5G-Advanced technology, Containerisation and Autonomous Network initiatives, as well as 5G Adoption for businesses. This history of successful cooperation provides a strong foundation for U Mobile’s ambitious plans to roll out Malaysia's second 5G network.
