U Mobile Inks MOU With China Mobile International to Accelerate 5G Deployment, Innovation, and Adoption

  • The MoU will see both companies leveraging respective strengths and expertise for various 5G initiatives
  • Whilst U Mobile will be tapping into CMI’s global experience, CMI will be looking to U Mobile for its strong local knowledge
  • As strategic partners, both parties will also explore innovative ways to leverage 5G technology through joint research and development, conceptualisation of 5G monetisation strategies and the promotion of 5G adoption especially for enterprises

 

Kuala Lumpur, 28 August 2024 – U Mobile, the award-winning mobile and digital services provider, and China Mobile International (CMI), a top global telecommunications operator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to become strategic partners for 5G initiatives.

 

Areas of collaboration include knowledge exchange on 5G deployment, innovation and adoption especially for B2B solutions. Apart from that, U Mobile and CMI will also explore and develop 5G commercial models that cross borders. Both parties also aim to study ways to enhance roaming infrastructure for seamless 5G cross-border connectivity for travellers.

We aim to leverage on CMI’s knowledge, resources and global network, towards the common goal of expediting 5G innovation and adoption, spurring digital economies through applications of 5G for digital and enterprise solutions,” said Wong Heang Tuck, Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile.

 

The MoU was signed by Wong Heang Tuck, Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile, and Wang Hua, Chairman and CEO of China Mobile International at the 2024 China Mobile SEA Cooperation Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
