KUALA LUMPUR, 11 June 2025 – U Mobile, Malaysia’s Next Gen 5G network provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OCK Telco Infra Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of OCK Group Berhad (OCK), Malaysia's largest telecommunications network solutions provider and regional towerco. Through this MoU, OCK will become one of U Mobile’s preferred 5G In-Building Coverage (IBC) infrastructure partners for its nationwide Next Gen 5G rollout.
This collaboration represents another critical milestone in U Mobile’s Next Gen 5G network deployment especially in delivering a superior 5G performance in high-traffic indoor environments. It also further reinforces the company’s target of reaching 80% coverage of populated areas (CoPA) by July 2026.
With OCK’s experience and capabilities in deploying telco infrastructure, U Mobile aims to accelerate its 5G IBC deployment with customised solutions tailored to the unique needs of each site. The partnership will prioritise reliable, high-performance indoor 5G connectivity that supports ultra-fast speeds, low latency, and seamless user experiences. Both parties also aim to deliver a fast and cost-effective deployment through a commercially competitive arrangement.
As part of the MOU, U Mobile and OCK will also jointly explore next-generation IBC innovations, including solutions that integrate technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, and autonomous systems, laying the groundwork for future-ready digital environments.
“U Mobile is pleased to have OCK as one of our preferred IBC infrastructure partners as we ramp up our nationwide 5G deployment. As Malaysia’s Next Gen 5G network provider, we are committed to empowering consumers and enterprises through reliable, ultra-fast connectivity. This partnership with OCK further enhances our ability to deliver that promise, especially in indoor and high-density environments. OCK will also serve as a key enabler in supporting our goal of achieving 80% CoPA by July 2026, while laying the foundation for broader 5G innovation and adoption,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.
OCK group managing director Datuk Wira Sam Ooi Chin Khoon commented, “Given our established reputation and longstanding track record as the largest telecommunication network solutions provider in Malaysia, we are immensely honoured to have partnered with U Mobile on this strategic collaboration, highlighting our resolute emphasis towards the support of Malaysia’s digital transformation. By leveraging on each other's unique strengths, we intend to spearhead the deployment of 5G infrastructure and unlock the full potential of 5G technologies to drive new industries, support local businesses and enhance the livelihoods of communities nationwide.”
