U Mobile to Leverage MICTH’s Tower Infrastructure Footprint and Expertise for Next Gen 5G Deployment in Melaka

  • U Mobile and Melaka ICT Holdings (MICTH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expedite the telco’s Next Gen 5G deployment in Melaka, supporting U Mobile’s target to reach 80% nationwide CoPA by H2 2026
  • The collaboration will see MICTH providing U Mobile with access to its tower and site infrastructure, with both parties working together to develop an efficient process for implementing 5G sites to accelerate coverage expansion

 

Kuala Lumpur, 17 July 2025 – U Mobile, Malaysia’s Next Gen 5G network provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn Bhd (MICTH), the state-backed company of Melaka, to accelerate the deployment of its Next Gen 5G network in the state of Melaka, reinforcing U Mobile’s ability to achieve its target of 80% nationwide coverage of populated areas (CoPA) by H2 2026.

 

The collaboration will see MICTH providing U Mobile with access to its tower and site infrastructure, as well as comprehensive support to expedite site implementations throughout the state. Both parties will also leverage respective expertise to establish an efficient process for 5G site deployment, enabling faster and broader coverage expansion.

The MoU exchange ceremony took place during Majlis Apresiasi dan Sinergi Telekomunikasi Negeri Melaka, held at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur. The exchange was represented by Woon Ooi Yuen, U Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer; Jaime Chee Kar Yean, U Mobile’s Head of Network Programs and Rollout; Dr Nazdiana binti Abd Wahab, MICTH’s Chief Executive Officer; and YB Datuk Fairul Nizam bin Roslan, EXCO Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Communication of Melaka. The exchange was witnessed by Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf bin Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka and YB Dato’ Azhar bin Haji Arshad, State Secretary of Melaka.
