Kuala Lumpur, 29 December 2025 – U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, is the first telco in the country to enable full-scale scam protection across its entire network. Operating at full scale since February 2025, the initiative is in partnership with Cellusys, an award-winning signalling security, roaming and analytics solutions provider, and has successfully protected U Mobile’s customers from a total of over 265 million scam calls and fraudulent SMS attempts to date.
Leveraging Cellusys’ Unified Signalling, SMS and Voice Firewall solution, U Mobile has been able to block scam attempts at a network level, which means that unlike generic filters, all inbound calls and SMS are screened through the solution first and if deemed suspicious, are blocked before they even reach customers’ devices. The solution has protected U Mobile customers from scam calls impersonating authorities and institutions, SMS phishing attacks (smishing), spoofed or manipulated caller identities and high-volume criminal campaigns targeting Malaysian consumers.
“At U Mobile, we are committed to safeguarding our customers against fraudulent activities, which is why we took a proactive step to embed the advanced scam protection solution from Cellusys directly into our network as a core security capability available to all customers. We’re proud to be the first telco in Malaysia to launch a full-scale network-level scam protection and our efforts have delivered tangible results, with over 265 million scam calls and fraudulent SMS blocked, to date. We will continue to improve our network through technology to better protect customers across voice, messaging and data services. As we expand our next generation 5G network nationwide, security remains a core priority, because trusted connectivity is essential to a resilient Malaysian digital economy,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.
“U Mobile’s leadership in protecting its customers sets a powerful benchmark for Malaysia and the wider region. We are proud that Cellusys technology is the engine behind this nationwide protection, operating with the accuracy, resilience, and scale required to stop scams before they reach consumers. This deployment demonstrates what can be achieved when operators commit to proven, real-world defences rather than future roadmaps,” said Brendan Cleary, CEO of Cellusys.
According to the Global Anti-Scam Alliance*, 73% of Malaysians have reported experiencing scam calls and fraudulent SMS, which is one of the highest in the Southeast Asian region, with criminal groups increasingly targeting households, senior citizens, and vulnerable individuals. Cellusys’ advanced signalling-intelligence platform analyses traffic at the authoritative network layer to detect anomalies and fraudulent behaviours with high precision. Leveraging behavioural and signalling-layer detection tuned to Malaysian threat patterns, it provides deep visibility across voice and messaging channels, ensures high accuracy with minimal false positives, continuously adapts to evolving fraud tactics, and delivers proven reliability at national scale for operators worldwide.
