5G SA refers to the 5G Standalone (SA) technology, which runs fully on 5G technology without relying on 4G systems. This allows for faster speeds, quicker response times and a more stable connection.
iPhone users
You must have the following:
a. An eligible rate plan
b. iPhone 15 models or newer and software updated to iOS26.4 or later
c. An eSIM activated after March 2025 or a physical 5G SUCI SIM
Android users
You must have the following:
a. An eligible rate plan
b. A compatible device updated with the latest software
Once the above conditions are met, you do not need to configure anything and can start enjoying 5G SA.
Effective 7 April 2026, all new sign-ups on the ULTRA plans will be automatically provisioned with 5G SA.

iPhone
5G SA is available for iPhone 15 models and newer. Your iPhone must be updated to iOS26.4 or later to use 5G SA.
Android
5G SA compatibility depends on your device model and software version. Please check with your device manufacturer to confirm whether your device supports 5G SA.
iPhone
if you have an eSIM activated after March 2025, you can already experience 5G SA.
However, if you are currently using a physical SIM card, your SIM card must be a 5G SUCI SIM to enjoy 5G SA. 5G SUCI SIM has either of the following designs:
If your SIM does not meet the above criteria, you can either:
i. Request for eSIM via the MyUMobile App; or
ii. Walk into any U Mobile Store if you prefer physical 5G SUCI SIM card
Any SIM replacement or eSIM transfer will be subjected to a fee of RM10 (excluding applicable taxes).
Android
You can use your existing eSIM activated after March 2025 or physical SIM card to experience 5G SA.
As this connectivity technology is new to the industry, older devices are unlikely to be 5G SA ready. To access the 5G SA technology, a smartphone needs to have the right components and software enabled by its manufacturer.
You will continue to enjoy undisrupted 5G or 4G connectivity on our network.
When you are connected to U Mobile’s own ULTRA5G network, you will see the network name change to ‘UM ULTRA5G’ on your 5G SA compatible phone.
However, if you are connected to Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) 5G network, you will see the network name change to ‘U Mobile 5G SA’.
You will continue to enjoy undisrupted 5G or 4G connectivity on our network.
